Welcome!

My name is Chris Sablynski and I am a tenured Associate Professor of Management within the Eberhardt School of Business, University of the Pacific. 

I completed my Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management from the University of Washington, Seattle (a Top 10 Best Global University in 2022)  where I received a Ph.D. Program Teaching Award and published two peer-reviewed journal articles.

As a full-time tenured faculty member, I have been fortunate to receive many accolades and awards. For example:

·       14 Outstanding Teaching Awards since 2001, both undergraduate and graduate levels

·       University of the Pacific’s Alumni Association’s Faculty-Mentor Award (2012)

·       University of the Pacific, Faith Davies All-University Leadership Award (2021)

During my career, I have taught a variety of leadership and management courses at various levels:

  • Executive MBA

  • MBA

  • MS Business Analytics

  • Undergraduate

Courses include Leadership & Change, Management & Organizational Behavior, Executive Decision Making, Business Analytics, Conflict Management, HR Management, Management Skills, Motivation & Performance, Organizational Design, and other Special Topics courses.

Recently, I had the privilege of completing the online Certificate in Data Science for Business, Harvard Business School (December 2021).

I have 18 peer-reviewed publications in such premier management journals as:

·       Academy of Management Journal (two articles: 2001 & 2004)

·       Organizational Research Methods

·       Personnel Psychology

·       Journal of Managerial Psychology

·       Journal of Vocational Behavior (two articles: 1999 & 2009)

·       Journal of Business & Psychology

As a doctoral student at the University of Washington in Seattle, our 2001 Academy of Management Journal (AMJ) article was a finalist for the journal’s “Best Paper Award” and our second AMJ publication (2004) received international recognition when it was highlighted in The Economist.  

My published work with Chris Wright, Ph.D., on the challenges of using puzzle interview employee selection techniques appeared in Time and on National Public Radio (NPR).

Over the last two decades, I have published two book chapters, delivered over 75 academic conference and professional presentations at the international, national, and local levels.

Prior to my academic career, I was employed by or contracted with such organizations as Microsoft’s People Research Division, The Hay Group management consultants, Chase, and Dun & Bradstreet

I am keynote speaker, trainer, facilitator and coach. I have presented to thousands of people of the topics of employee engagement, job embeddedness, employee selection, compensation, turnover, leadership, diversity/equity/inclusion/belonging (DEIB) and conflict management.

My students often describe me as friendly, funny and helpful.

I care a great deal about helping individuals and organizations maximize their performance.
